On Yer Bike, Martin!

By Martin Williams, Deputy News EditorMartin Williams
I've gone and opened my big mouth again.
This time it's Happy Faces, but it doesn't matter, I have an inability to say no to charities and their daft (albeit worthy) stunts.
I've grown a moustache, rowed across the Irish Sea (on a rowing boat aboard a ferry!), cycled from Glasgow to St Asaph, shaved my head, shaved my legs, been auctioned off and shot out of a cannon.
Now I'm to partake in a 14 hour cycling challenge.

I will be joining the Rhos-on-Sea based Happy Faces team on its Fifty Pence Day this coming Wednesday (January 31), by pedalling furiously on an exercise bike outside Asda in the freezing cold, along with Colwyn Bay mayor Brian Cossey, his Llandudno equivalent Philip Evans, Manchester United football legend Mickey Thomas and a numerous volunteers.Apparently, this will get us in the Guinness Book of World Records as it's never been done before.
Organiser Ray Herbert, together with chairman David Hulme, secretary Pauline Hulme and a generous committee, is looking for business owners and schools to offer their premises as a drop-off point for customers willing to “help a kid with half a quid” – a donation of 50p that will go directly to the appeal.
Events chairman Ray says the day will not be a one-off and promises to make it an annual event that grows every year. He believes it will eventually rise to the level of campaigns like Comic Relief.
“We’re taking this very seriously, this is going to be every year and we’re going to try and think of as many ideas as possible to raise as much money as possible – but we need the support of readers,” said Ray.
“Our vision is to involve and motivate as many people as possible to make this a day that will put North Wales on the map as a leading and caring region. We really want school pupils to get involved as well. Every 50p raised will be used to aid children who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged who live in North Wales."
