When I first discovered the Welsh Assembly Government was proposing to start roadworks and restrict traffic flow on the A470 Conwy Valley trunk road near Llanrwst, my mind instantly thought of the delays.

Road users on this important link road, which joins the Conwy Valley communities and links North and South Wales, will be affected for the best part of 18 months, with speed restrictions, contraflows, temporary traffic signals, lengthy diversions and the usual dirt, mess and misery that roadworks bring.

Back from holiday in Italy this week, it seems the perennial thorny topic of cleanliness in our hospitals is at the forefront of the news again.

Do you ever wonder why you bother? Our dedicated team of reporters contacted every mayor in the area, organised photographs and diligently took down the details. You can read all about it on page 28 of this week's edition.

"Are you looking forward to the year ahead? Representing the people of your town must be a real honour? Will you work hard for the community? Are we all going to be better off a year from now?"

Readers, these people are here to represent you and I, but you wouldn't know it sometimes.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... It seems, judging by the barrage of correspondence we've had from readers this week, that Conwy County Council's latest kerbside recycling scheme has failed miserably before it's barely started.

A Bedroom Farce

One of the perks of working in the media is that you get the occasional freebie, and last night it was the press launch of the latest touring play to hit Venue Cymru, Alan Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce.

I like Ayckbourn, I like silly comedies, and I think some of the acting talent recruited in this case made it a treat not to miss.
