Well, it's taken three weeks and an awful lot of organisation behind the scenes, but this Thursday we will finally be printing the last batch of Pet Idol photographs for voting.
I'm always amazed by the strength of support our pet competition gets, but I shouldn't be too surprised - Britain is a nation of animal lovers, and looking at some of the entries we received for Pet Idol 2007, North Wales has more than its fair share of them!
There are three categories - Dog, Cat and Other, the latter category being my favourite. We always expect the usual budgies and rabbits and the odd mouse or rat, but this year our readers excelled themselves, with entries for a sheep called simply Oi, a Chinese water dragon called Teak, hamsters called Bubble and Squeak, and an albino ferret called Baby!
My personal favourite (which, incidentally, has no bearing on the vote as it's readers who judge) is a picture of the dog Dave. I just think calling your dog Dave is so wonderfully subversive, much more mischievous than calling your pup Rover, Jack or Bonnie!
The voting window remains open for two weeks, closing on Thursday, October 11th at high noon. We'll announce the results in the Weekly News soon after this date.
