They're Taking Their Hands Off Our Hospital At Last!

Nearly two years ago the Weekly News launched a campaign to keep breast surgery and coronary care units at Llandudno Hospital.

Our Hands Off Our Hospital campaign was prompted by a recommendation in the North Wales Hospitals Secondary Care Review that these vital services be transferred to one of the two district general hospitals at Bangor or Bodelwyddan.

My Issue, in last Thursday's Weekly News, on how the farming industry is in crisis was a real eye opener, and has totally changed by perception of the support local farmers receive.

Like most consumers, I shop for the best priced products when I do my weekly trolley dash. I'm not usually bothered if it's New Zealand lamb, Spanish strawberrys or Welsh leeks, just as long as I get a good price.

THIS is a sad day for me as a Weekly News old stager with the news of the death of Tommy Eyton Jones, who was "Mr North Wales Weekly News" to many of our readers for more than 50 years.

Tommy, who started on the paper straight from Conwy Central School as a mere slip of a lad, worked his way up through the company to become the much respected sports editor and deputy editor.

The council elections are almost upon us and the Weekly News can look forward to dealing with candidates bombarding us with e-mails and invitations to all manner of publicity stunts to help them secure their annual allowance for the next four years - sorry, what I meant to say was so they can represent their communities and work tirelessly to change their wards for the better.

I've just got out of our regular Monday morning news meeting with the reporters, where we go through what stories everybody has and discuss them. And we've certainly got some different ones this week!

But of course I'm not going to be silly enough to tell you what they all are now - for a start, rival eyes may be watching!
